Led by Dr Megan Joffe, Edgecumbe Health is part of the Edgecumbe Group. Our health sector team is a blend of occupational, organisational and clinical psychologists, learning and development professionals and HR consultants. It includes an outstanding group of associate consultants with whom we work on a regular basis.
Megan is an organisational and clinical psychologist who works mainly in the assessment and development of senior people, including doctors. She is particularly interested in how the individual and the system influence one another.
Through her work with NCAS and with clinicians from all over the UK, Megan has become a leading authority in doctors and teams in difficulty.
Her experience extends to the development of leadership teams, leading change, and experiential learning. She is also an executive coach and facilitator
Although starting her career in medical microbiology doing research for the MRC, Claire is now a highly experienced Learning & Development and Organisational Development professional who has worked with and within a wide range of internationally recognised organisations such as Astra Zeneca, Glaxo Smith Kline, the Forensic Science Service and the NHS.
Her overarching interest is developing the performance of people throughout organisations in a way that works and is sustainable. An experienced coach, certified Emotional Intelligence practitioner and qualified e.tutor Claire successfully completed her Masters in People and Organisational Development in 2007 and is now a Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Learning.
Claire also has an interest in creating online learning environments to support individual development and is currently Head of Blended Learning Development for Edgecumbe Group.
Jon holds a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in Management Development & Organisational Change, both from the University of Bristol. Following a successful consulting career as an occupational psychologist, he was appointed Organisation Development Manager and then Head of Learning & Development for a major UK energy business, from where he joined Edgecumbe in 2008.
His main areas of interest are senior management assessment and development, succession management, employee engagement and organisational change. He has extensive UK and international experience of business integration and reorganisation.
Edgecumbe’s Associate Consultants are all highly experienced and work with us on a regular basis.
Barbara is an experienced Chartered Psychologist and she is a skilled facilitator, coach, trainer and presenter. She has particular skill and knowledge of working with doctors having spent 13 years at the Royal Free as an internal consultant psychologist in organisational health. She provided amongst other services a coaching and consultancy service for clinical managers; facilitated action learning sets for managers and clinical leaders; facilitated team development and provided an in-house mediation service. Since leaving there she has been instrumental in developing and introducing Schwartz Rounds into a number of hospitals. Subjects of particular interest to her in facilitating improved patient care include individual, team and organisational resilience; and the importance of addressing team conflict.
Pauline retired as Medical Director of NCAS in January 2014 having spent 10 years developing and leading programmes of workplace based assessment for doctors, dentists and pharmacists whose performance had given cause for concern. In addition to her NCAS work, Pauline has had considerable experience of managing performance concerns having previously been a Trust Medical Director and a Health Authority Chief Executive. She has an international reputation for her work in the assessment of clinical performance and has published widely on the subject. Pauline was a member of the team who developed the Performance Procedures for the GMC and continues to lead the GMC's programme for the training of performance assessors. She is also an Adviser to the Medical Council of Ireland and to the EBMA (European Board of Medical Assessors). She has a particular interest in factors affecting performance including team dysfunction.
Jenny is the former Director of Edgecumbe Health. She is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, with a doctorate in Psychology from Oxford University. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
Jenny has worked with doctors for most of her career; assessing leadership potential; developing teamworking, and supporting Trusts with medical appraisal and enhanced Consultant appointments processes.
Her main interest is in the psychological assessment and support of doctors and clinical teams. She has been supporting NCAS as a behavioural assessor since 2002, and has supported the set-up of Professional Support Units in several Deaneries. She conducts assessments, reviews and mediation in clinical teams where relationships and behaviour pose risks to clinical care. She has collaborated with the Royal College of Surgeons England to produce their 2014 Good Practice Guides on The High Performing Surgical Team and Surgical Leadership. She is a regular speaker at national conferences on the topic of managing conflict in healthcare teams.
Jenny is also an experienced coach and works with healthcare leaders as well as senior executives in the corporate sector, providing leadership assessment and coaching.
David is one of the founders of Edgecumbe. He has been consulting in occupational psychology for over 20 years since completing his doctorate at Oxford. He works throughout the world with clients in a wide range of organisations. Most of his work is in top team development and leadership development. He is a specialist in the assessment of business leaders. He is an Associate Fellow of the Saïd Business School, Oxford where he contributes to their executive education programmes. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners in recognition of his early work in the field of doctor patient communication.
Mike is a highly experienced management development consultant who has been working with Edgecumbe for over 10 years. His focus is on enabling personal and team awareness and in helping individuals to develop their management and leadership capability to achieve their full potential. He is also an expert in medical appraisal.
Mike is an outstanding presenter, able to work creatively with large and small groups, and is a very skilled facilitator of team events and an experienced coach.
Caroline is a Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has over 20 years Human Resources and Organisational Development experience both within the private and public sectors, much of it in the NHS.
Caroline is an expert in medical appraisal and has extensive experience of appraiser training, multi-source feedback, quality assurance of appraisal systems and consulting on appraisal strategy.
Peter is founder and managing director of HeartSpheres Ltd.
He provides group and 1:1 coaching and training for organisations and individuals for developing resilience, emotional intelligence and to manage stress and to enhance performance. He also conducts sessions within leadership development programmes at:
- SAID Business School, Oxford University National
- College for Leadership in Schools and Children’s Services
Peter’s clients span from business schools in the UK and Germany, corporate business, public services, educational and health organisations.
Alastair was the founding Medical Director of the National Clinical Assessment Authority (later the National Clinical Assessment Service), leading, as chief officer, its creation and operation for the first ten years of its work until his retirement from NHS practice. His senior career had particular focus on clinical and professional governance, across medical education, training, staffing and professional performance within health care services. This extended to close involvement in a number of key national initiatives in these fields and extended beyond the health sector into health care law, where he chaired for its first six years the Clinical Disputes Forum for England and Wales, set up following the publication of Access to Justice, the review of civil litigation by Lord Woolf. Alastair has lectured and published widely and is an expert advisor and contributor to the Edgecumbe Action on Professional Performance team.
Felicity is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist with a degree in Psychology from York University, PhD in facial memory from Aberdeen University and MSc in Occupational Psychology from Hertfordshire University. She is a passionate advocate of personal growth, development and change and focuses on assisting clients to achieve their strategic goals through developing the potential and diversity of their people and teams. An experienced business psychologist, she has extensive experience in assessment, psychometrics, coaching, recruitment and selection, training, organisational development and culture.
Mandy holds an MSc in occupational psychology and is a chartered member of the CIPD. Having begun her corporate career in human resources she moved to consultancy and has over 15 years’ experience specialising in the design and delivery of assessment and development centres for public and private sector clients.
With a keen interest and breadth of experience in assessment methodology and psychometrics, she has a particular focus on designing quality driven solutions that are bespoke to client needs and which put the candidate and participant experience at the heart of this, managing difficult situations sensitively and flexibly.
